Discover the Local Advantage
September 21, 2010

Hi, and welcome to At the Center.

For many, the end of summer not only brings some much welcomed cooler weather, many also associate it with the beginning of the school year, the string of community fairs that take place around the county, and even a time to get down to business again, kicking it into high gear for the last quarter.

At The Chamber, Fall means our annual Business Expo is right around the corner. On October 21 from 9 AM to 4 PM at the Lancaster County Convention Center, two hundred businesses will be set up and ready to showcase their local products and services that can help businesses and consumers. The theme, Discover the Local Advantage, encourages visitors at the show to do just that – explore all of the resources, products and services found locally by taking the time to visit the exhibitors at the Expo and talk to them about your specific business needs.

But there’s more to the business case for buying local than just supporting your business neighbor – although that’s a strong argument in itself! When more businesses and consumers make the choice to buy local, more money stays in the community; money spent locally can increase productivity, resulting in more employment opportunities and a better business climate; and because so many local businesses and individuals contribute greatly in their support of local organizations and charities by re-circulating dollars back into the community, the entire county benefits from a better quality of life.

If you are -- or are considering exhibiting in the Expo, this is an excellent opportunity to showcase your new and innovative products and services to the local community. If you plan on attending the Expo as a visitor, you will be fortunate to have so many local, quality companies from a variety of industries eager and ready to talk to you about your business needs.

Whether you choose to exhibit in the show, attend as a visitor, or both – I encourage you to discover the advantages of doing business locally.

In addition to the Expo, be sure to start out your day on October 21 at the annual Legislative Issues Breakfast featuring our state legislators addressing several key business issues; and over lunch, The Business Leaders Forum will feature Jim Murphy, president of Hardy North America. Ltd., who will discuss why this internationally-known, award winning and progressive fly fishing supplies company chose to base its North American headquarters in Lancaster County.

I hope to see you at the Expo. Until then, stay informed, stay engaged, and stay At the Center.
